Each Frato interior starts with a simple idea. We take inspiration from, well, everywhere. Be it a postcard from Japan or a swatch of vintage fabric found in Santorini, the essence of our interiors comes from far and wide. We gather all this inspiration together to create a mood board that fits the vibe of the creation we want. Then, we get to work on bringing it to life.
Once we’ve sourced our inspiration, we sit down and sketch it out. Whether it’s a sofa or a sideboard, every piece we create goes through several variations before we settle on the one we think is the most iconic. All the while we’re sketching, we’re thinking about how the finished piece will look and feel in every dynamic and space.
Sketch done, we begin to think about materials. When choosing them, we think about the final look and feel of the piece. For sofas and soft furnishings, we gather swatches of linens, velvets and satins to see what we think best suits. For sideboards, tables and wardrobes, we look at metals and woods.
Then, we think about how we can add unusual touches using brass, steel and mirror. Of course, each piece we design is made to be personalised, so you can tailor the materials and shades to suit your space and taste.
We place our design in the hands of expert artisans in the Porto region. Whether they’re a carpenter, glass blower or upholsterer, they use tried and tested methods passed down between generations to create interiors that stand the test of time. Finally, we admire the finished piece in its destined space.
